Tai O and Lantau Island (HK)

Aloha! It's a beautiful and sunny day at Tai O and Lantau Island!

It was Typhoon no.8 yesterday in HK and today (17.09.14) the weather is awesome! We decided not to waste the beautiful day, so off we are to explore the islands.

We took bus number 11 to Tai O from Tung Chung bus terminal. The ride took about 45 mins. Beautiful scenery along the way.

And here we are.....

If you want to catch a glimpse of the Pink dolphins, you can go on one of these dolphin trip. There are many operators for you to choose from and they depart regularly, so it is not really necessary to book in advance.

 Lets begin exploring this place.

It feels like I have stepped back in time....

There are many stalls selling dried seafood stuffs here. Some are unique to Tai O. My mum loves this place!

And they even have a stall selling huge, huge fish ball! The size is at least 3 times bigger than you normal fish ball.

A cute little museum......

Must Buy! The dried seafood when you are here.... and of course we bought some goodies back from this stall....

As you can see, my mum is enjoying her shopping here. She even made friends with the owners and ask them to provide her with some soup recipes.

Yeah, it's good times when we are back in Singapore. I can't wait to try the stuffs she bought here!

Must Try! The purple juice when you are here. Its awesome! I can't remember what the fruit is called, but it has a very refreshing taste and it is a little sweet and sour-ish. Perfect for the sunny weather today!

Interesting old school wet market. There are people buying fishes here to bring home and cook for dinner.

Peaceful little village with houses built on slits.

Bye Tai O, we will be back.
(P/S: Remember to change more HKD if you intend to come here for dried seafood shopping!)

Next stop is Lantau Island. We took bus 21 from Tai O to Lantau. It is fast. Took us about 15mins only.

The big Buddha which we are about to conquer! 268 steps, here we come!

Climbing, climbing, climbing and climbed! We are here! Finally! Climbing 268 steps is no joke under this hot sun!

Beautiful view from the top.

After climbing the big Buddha, we will be exploring the small village of Ngong Ping.

Ngong Ping Village was having a cable car exhibition when we were there. They showcased a few cable cars from different countries.

Overall, it was a fun-filled sunny day! I highly recommend you to go to these 2 places when you are visiting HK. We did not take the cable car ride this trip as it was closed for maintenance.  A pity but well, at least we have something to come back here for. Cheers!
